Bernhard Haslhofer has been a Senior Researcher at the Complexity Science Hub since November 2020, coordinating research activities in cryptoasset analytics. Until April 2022, he was a Senior Scientist at the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) where he coordinated the research group “Data Science: Artificial Intelligence.” He is also an external lecturer at TU Wien.

Bernhard obtained his PhD from the University of Vienna in the field of computer science and holds a master’s degree in Economics and Computer Science. Before joining AIT, he worked as an EU Marie Curie fellow at Cornell Information Science and as assistant professor at the University of Vienna.

Bernhard’s research focuses on finding and applying quantitative data science methods for gaining new insights from large-scale, connected datasets. He usually works in multidisciplinary settings.

Bernhard has published more than 60 scientific articles in journals and conferences and co-organized several workshops, symposia, and conferences. He actively contributed to international standardization efforts with the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) and the W3C World Wide Web Consortium. Bernhard also coordinated several basic and applied research projects on a national and an international level.
