The CSH is located in the historic Palais Springer-Rothschild, right in the heart of Vienna

In December 2024, we started relocating from Vienna’s Josefstadt to the Palais Springer-Rothschild in Vienna’s Landstraße district. Our grand opening will be celebrated on March 4, 2025.

The Palais Springer-Rothschild was built between 1891 and 1893. Commissioned by Baron Bourgoing, the project was entrusted to an Austrian-French architect duo. Today’s architectural style still reflects their influence, visible in the main façade and the fact that the palace is set back from the street, for example. Shortly thereafter, Baron Sigismund von Springer and his wife Valentine, née Rothschild, acquired the palais and carried out several renovations, including the addition of a winter garden and an atelier. They resided in the building from 1912 onwards.

Due to persecution by the Nazis, Valentine Springer was forced to flee. Although she retained official ownership of the palais due to her British citizenship, much of its contents were sold or confiscated. After the war, only some of the content was returned to her. In 1950, Valentine Springer leased the building to the Republic of Austria for an indefinite period. The building was purchased by the Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft (BIG), the Austrian Federal Real Estate Company, in 1983. Prior to the Complexity Science Hub’s relocation, the Palais had been used by the University of Music and Performing Arts (mdw).

We are looking forward to meeting you there!
