Vibeke Sorensen is an artist and professor working in digital multimedia and experimental animation, immersive interactive installation and visual music. She was professor at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore from 2009 – 2021, where from 2009 – 2019 she served as Chair (head of school) of the School of Art, Design and Media (ADM) and as Founding Director of the Centre for Asian Art and Design (CAAD).  From 2021-2022 she was a Visiting Scholar in the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences (CASBS) at Stanford University.

Sorensen was professor and Founding Chair of the Division of Animation and Digital Arts (DADA), in the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California (USC) from 1994 – 2004, and from 1984 – 1994 she served as Founding Director of the Computer Animation Laboratory (CAL) in the School of Film and Video at California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). From 1990 – 1993, she also taught at Princeton University in the Department of Computer Science. She has been a consultant for Disney and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory/NASA, and co-founded the Advanced Scientific Visualization Laboratory (ASVL) at the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). In 2007, she was the Chair of the ACM SIGGRAPH Art Gallery: Global Eyes.

Sorensen’s creative work and research has been supported by the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), the US National Science Foundation (NSF), the US National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), the USC Annenberg Center for Communication, Intel Corporation and NTU Singapore. She is a 2001 Rockefeller Foundation Fellow in Film/Video/Multimedia. Her work has been featured in many film festivals, exhibitions and publications worldwide. In 2020 her work on the Colour Music of the Balinese Calendar was the focus of an exhibition by a team of architects, artists and researchers from ETH Zurich at the Sharjah Architecture Triennial. In 2022 her wearable technologies artwork bringing attention to the disappearing rainforest in Southeast Asia and the plight of some of the last hunter-gatherers to preserve it, Tree Dress, was exhibited in the ACM SIGGRAPH DAC Exhibition, The Earth, Our Home: Art, Technology and Critical Action.
