Tim Booker, PhD Candidate at the Complexity Science Hub

Tim has been a PhD candidate at the Complexity Science Hub since February 2023.

Tim completed his Bachelor of Science with Honours at Swinburne University, Melbourne, Australia. He majored in physics, and his honours topic was in mathematical physics, where he used analytical combinatorics to solve self-avoiding walk models. Most recently, he was a visiting researcher at the Graduate School of Advanced Integrated Studies in Human Survivability (GSAIS), Kyoto University, Japan, studying the entropy of complex systems.

His research goals are to contribute to the theoretical foundations of complex systems, with a focus on society’s keystone systems, like democracy, governance, and social media.

He hopes to use this knowledge to inform the design of science-backed changes to our systems to address the world’s existential problems.
