Ruth Pfeiffer

Ruth Pfeiffer, a tenured senior investigator in the biostatistics branch of the division of cancer epidemiology and genetics at the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, USA, has been a member of the External Faculty of the Complexity Science Hub Vienna since spring 2020.

Ruth received a degree in applied mathematics from the Technical University of Vienna, Austria, a degree in applied statistics and a PhD in mathematical statistics—both from the University of Maryland, College Park (USA). At NIH, Ruth is an active collaborator on many research projects and mentors several fellows and junior investigators. Her research focuses on statistical methods for absolute risk prediction, problems arising in molecular and genetic epidemiologic studies, and the analysis of data from electronic medical records.

Ruth received the Mildred Scheel Award of the Deutsche Krebshilfe and a Fulbright Fellowship. She is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute, and an elected fellow of the American Statistical Association.
