Johannes Fröhlich

Johannes Fröhlich, Professor and Chair of Organic Chemistry, has been Vice Rector for Research at Technische Universität Wien from 2011-2015. He has been reappointed for the 2015-2019 period as Vice Rector for Research and Innovation. Previously, for eight years he was Dean of the Faculty of Technical Chemistry, after having served for some years as Head of the Institute of Applied Synthetic Chemistry. He holds a “Dipl.-Ing” in Technical Chemistry and after a PhD-thesis in Organic Synthetic Chemistry earned his “Dr.techn.” at the TU Wien, followed by a Postdoc in UK and Habilitation. He was appointed Full Professor of Organic Chemistry at the TU Wien in 2003.

He was Guest Professor at the STU Bratislava, Masaryk University Brno, TU Dresden and at the University Heidelberg. On level of the European Union he was active for many years as Member of the Management Committee and of the Administration Council of the European Chemistry Thematic Network. His research activities in Organic Chemistry focus on: bioactive compounds (co-inventor in patents for a synthetic procedure to Galanthamine, an Alzheimer drug, launched on the market as Reminyl® by Janssen Pharmaceuticals), Metabolomics and Organic Electronics.
