János Kertész (Dr. rer. nat. Eötvös University) is professor and Head of the Department of Network and Data Science at the Central European University (CEU). Earlier he was researcher at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Professor at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, finally the Director of the Institute of Physics.

János’s main interest is in interdisciplinary applications of statistical physics, including econophysics, network science and computational social science.  He finds that, after 250 years of efforts, the micro to macro transition is still one of the most challenging problems in social sciences.

He is an elected member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He moved to Vienna in 2020, when CEU was expelled from Hungary.
