Helena Miton holds a BA in Sociology from the Université Paris IV Sorbonne, a Master degree in Cognitive Science from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales and the Ecole Normale Supérieure, and a PhD in Cognitive Science from the Central European University (Budapest, Hungary). After her doctorate, she completed an Omidyar fellowship at the Santa Fe Institute.

Helena Miton’s research focuses on the interplay between minds and culture, and how the interactions between them led to contemporary organizational forms. She investigates questions such as how knowledge is passed on and maintained through time, and how constraints faced by human collectives would explain the development of cognitive technologies — like writing — and organizational forms. As an interdisciplinary researcher, she uses computational models, experiments, and large-scale archival datasets.
