Art & Science with Tirsso Castañeda & Rafael Prieto-Curiel

Art by Tirsso Castañeda “Complexes – Harmonics”

The aesthetic discourse of Tirsso Castañeda, born in Puebla, Mexico in 1971, is a particular vision that leads us from the microcosm to the macrocosm, born from his colors and lines that transition from the ritual to the organic.
When we gaze upon his paintings, we are prompted to contemplate the visible world, pondering its origins, internal connections, and the intricate layers of reality it presents. His pieces play with contrasts between lines and textures, balancing geometrically defined spaces with vibrant chromatic expressions.

Through his works, he questions the nature of reality — what we see merely hints at something deeper, embodying the origin, growth, formation, and ultimate realization of existence. Thus, each painting becomes an aesthetic manifesto, transcending mere emotion in the face of the visible.

Science by Rafael Prieto-Curiel “Society on the Move”

Since early migrations prompted by colonization, wars, and plagues to modern digital nomads, humans have always migrated. The drive to move is part of human nature, fueled partly by survival instincts, but also by curiosity, a desire to find out what lies beyond the ocean, from millions of people displaced by violence to students moving every year. Migration is a pivotal force shaping societies, economies, cultures, and cities. Behind the headlines and statistics lie fascinating scientific insights that unravel the complexities of human movement.

In this talk, CSH researcher Prieto-Curiel will discuss some advances in complex models related to migration and look at the multidimensional facets of a society that is moving.
