Carlo Jäger

Carlo C. Jaeger, co-founder and chairman of the Global Climate Forum, is professor at Potsdam University (Germany), visiting professor at the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability at Arizona State University (ASU), and at the Beijing Normal University (BNU; China), where he has been appointed as an outstanding foreign expert to the Chinese government.

He holds degrees in economics (Frankfurt University, Germany), sociology (University of Berne, Switzerland), and human ecology (ETH Zurich).

Until March 2012, Carlo was head of the research domain Transdisciplinary Concepts and Methods at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. He was professor at the University of Darmstadt and head of the Human Ecology Department at the Swiss Federal Institute for Environmental Science and Technology. He is a member of the Scientific and Technical Council of the International Risk Governance Council, and has served on the boards of various scientific organizations.

As a sustainability scientist with a background in economics, sociology and human ecology, Carlo has worked extensively on the interactions between technological progress and environmental problems, in particular the role of information technologies in urban development. Currently, his research is focused on problems of global coordination in view of sustainable development and in the role of financial markets in addressing – or exacerbating – the problem of climate change.

Carlo authored or co-authored over 50 scientific papers and over a dozen scientific books.
