Bernat Corominas-Murtra

Former Researcher

Bernat Corominas-Murtra obtained a degree in physics at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and a degree in linguistics at the Universitat de Barcelona, in a program focused on logics and theoretical syntax. He has a masters degree in mathematics from the same university, in the framework of a program centered on dynamical systems and stochastic processes.

Bernat’s PhD, entitled “An unified approach to the emergence of complex communication”, was advised by Ricard Solé from ICREA-Complex Systems lab, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, within the doctorate program of the Parc de Recerca Biomèdica de Barcelona.

He has published more than 40 peer-reviewed papers, spanning different areas of research from information theory, models of early forms of life to complex networks or the structure and logics of human language. His current research activity is focused on the study of path dependent processes and the foundations of information theory beyond the standard approach.

Bernat is also actively working in the field complex networks applied to various fields. After positions at the Section for Science of Complex Systems (Medical University of Vienna) and at the Complexity Science Hub Vienna, both led by Stefan Thurner, Bernat has a new position at the IST Austria in Klosterneuburg beginning with May 2018.
