Suzanne Kern is Director of Education at the Santa Fe Institute. She received her PhD in Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where her research examined unusual microbial metabolism and signaling across scales from molecules to ecosystems. She has over two decades of experience advancing science education at institutions including MIT, Caltech, Minerva University, and SFI, spanning active-learning course design, curriculum development, assessment, faculty support, and academic administration. Her work at SFI focuses on effective, inclusive, and cross-disciplinary pedagogical practices that support learning in and about complex systems.
