Sophie Wieser

Sophie Wieser, MD, obtained her medical degree in human medicine from the Medical University of Vienna. Concurrently with her medical studies, she became increasingly interested in languages and linguistics and enrolled in French romance linguistics studies at the University of Vienna.

After completing her medical degree with a neuropsychological diploma thesis, she enrolled in a Master’s programme in Linguistics at Université Grenoble Alpes, France. There, she is a fellow of the transdisciplinary training programme TransCoG, which aims to couple cognitive science, psychology, language sciences, and philosophy, and is supported by a broad research program on the brain and cognition.

In her first year of master’s, she became part of the Aphantasia Alpes Research Group (AARG) lead by Hélène Loevenbruck and Alan Chauvin, researchers at the LPNC (Laboratoire de Psychologie et NeuroCognition). Under their supervision, she explores the phenomenological experiences in our inner mental life, especially inner speech in all its forms, present or absent. This research is currently carried out through introspective interviewing and questionnaires, focusing especially on multilingual experience aspects. Future projects will couple this perspective with experimental measures from psycholinguistic lab experiments and phenomenological interviewing.
