We are ceasing our activities on X (formerly Twitter) because we believe that, at this point, the negative aspects of X outweigh its potential for sharing scientific content with a broad audience. Transparency, inclusivity, and the promotion of constructive dialogue are among the core values of good scientific practice. These are values we feel are no longer adequately represented on X, given the increasing presence of harmful content, including far-right conspiracy theories and racism.
While we acknowledge the arguments for maintaining a presence on a platform with such a broad reach, we believe that recent developments indicate there are better and more responsible ways to share information and engage with the public.
