CSH Secures OeNB Funding

This funding highlights CSH’s contribution to advancing data-driven economic research with societal impact.

The Complexity Science Hub (CSH) has been awarded research funding from the Austrian National Bank (OeNB) for the period 2025-2027, strengthening its commitment to independent economic research with high societal relevance.

A cornerstone of CSH’s work is its use of large-scale datasets to explore economic and policy-related questions. Moving beyond the traditional approach of treating economic agents as aggregates, CSH models firms, banks, regulators, and infrastructure as individual actors within complex networks. This methodology offers new insights into systemic issues such as efficiency, resilience, and systemic risk — the risk of widespread economic disruption triggered by cascading failures across financial or economic systems.

CSH addresses these challenges with advanced statistical and mathematical techniques, including network theory, machine learning, AI, data analytics, and complexity science.

The OeNB’s funding program supports independent, science-based economic research as a public good, emphasizing both theoretical economic foundations and their empirical application. These insights serve as vital tools for policymakers and help inform the public on economic developments and the effects of policy
