Michael v. zur Mühlen has been working as a director for drama, opera, music theatre and transmedia formats since 2004, among others for the Munich Biennale, Kunstfest Weimar, NextLevel Festival Essen, PAD Festival Wiesbaden, HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts, Impulstanz Vienna, AMAZE Berlin, Forum Neues Musiktheater der Staatsoper Stuttgart, Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz Berlin, Oper Leipzig, DNT Weimar, DT Göttingen, Staatsoper Berlin, Theater Freiburg. From 2016 to 2021, he was director and head of dramaturgy at Oper Halle, whose programme has won several awards, including the German Federal Theatre Prize. His opera film ‘Im Stein’, was nominated for the German theatre award DER FAUST in 2022. With ‘opera – a future game’, he developed an interactive video game essay, which was awarded the German Theatre Prize DER FAUST in 2023 and shown internationally.
