Johan Bollen

Johan Bollen is a Professor of Simulation of Complex Adaptive Systems at the University of Amsterdam and Professor of Informatics and Cognitive Science at Indiana University Bloomington. He is the director of the Center for Social and Biomedical Complexity at Indiana University. He was formerly a staff scientist at the Los Alamos National Laboratory and an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science of Old Dominion University from 2002 to 2005. He obtained his PhD in Experimental Psychology from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in 2001. He has published more than 100 articles on computational science, network science, complex systems, social media analytics, informetrics, and digital libraries. His research has been funded by the NIH, NSF, DARPA, IARPA, EDA, NASA, and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. His recent interests focus on unraveling the dynamics of individual and collective mental health from a complex adaptive systems perspective and the affective, cognitive, and behavioral effects of social media on well-being.
