Workshop on Fostering a fair Algorithmic Environment: Presenting the MAMMOth AI bias Solutions

We invite you to participate in the upcoming MAMMOth workshop on “Fostering a fair algorithmic environment: Presenting the MAMMOth AI bias solutions”.

We invite AI practitioners and social scientists studying AI-related topics to discuss mitigating AI biases. The workshop will be hosted in Vienna on Tuesday, 05 November 2024. It will include a morning hands-on session from 09:00 to 12:15 CET and an afternoon panel discussion with experts on AI applications/regulation from 14:00 to 17:30.

The workshop will take place at the Technical University of Wien on the Karlsplatz campus (Karlsplatz 13, 1040 Wien). Room: AD EG, including coffee breaks and lunch.

The workshop aims to explore the development of fairness-aware AI solutions, highlight current technological advancements in the context of AI bias, and share outcomes from a wide range of co-creation activities conducted with underrepresented groups and experts in AI research.

In the morning, you will have the opportunity to become familiar with the project, the bias-preventing developed solutions and to contribute to discussions on addressing biases across the project’s three relevant sectors of interest:

a) Finance/loan applications

b) Identity verification systems

c) Academic evaluation

During the afternoon, four AI experts from the social sciences, ethics on AI, and AI practitioners will present their successful projects and discuss how to enhance fairer and less biased AI systems.

a) Helga Nowotny, ETH Zurich and CSH.

b) Valerie Hefez, Bundeskanzleramt and Women in AI Austria

b) Erich Prem, TU Wien.

c) TBC

This event is an opportunity for collaboration, learning, and contributing to the advancement of ethical AI research and practice through the Horizon Europe project entitled Multi-Attribute, Multimodal Bias Mitigation in AI Systems (MAMMOth), which focuses on addressing multi-discrimination challenges in AI within tabular, network, and multimodal data contexts. We encourage your participation and look forward to your insights.

The workshop is free to attend, but space is limited. Reserve your spot now using the online registration form! The deadline for registration is October 31, 2024. The current agenda is also attached.
