When do Groups Choose Leader Decisions or Majority Voting?

When new groups form, they must often decide on how they will make decisions. Two different governance structures that are often considered and contrasted are leader decisions and majority voting. One benefit of leader decisions is that they can be faster than slower deliberative processes, such as majority voting. However, slower deliberative processes sometimes ultimately lead to better choices. To explore how people navigate this trade-off between leader decisions and majority voting, we have designed an online group experiment. I will present data from a pre-test of this experimental design (156 participants), highlighting some preliminary findings and looking for feedback on next steps before we run our full experiment.
