Strategic Autonomy: How New Technologies in Supply-Network Intelligence contribute to Europe’s Security
Recent episodes — from the Nexperia crisis to rare-earth shortages and concerns about digital sovereignty — show that understanding Europe’s supply chains has become a strategic asset. Yet, much of the relevant knowledge remains fragmented, incomplete, and outdated.
The success of upcoming EU initiatives such as the IMERA, the Critical Raw Materials Act, and the Net-Zero Industry Act will depend on how well Europe can map, monitor, and anticipate developments in its supply chains.
ASCII and the Complexity Science Hub are developing AI-augmented network analytics to monitor and stress-test supply chains — tools already in use in Austria in cooperation with national market resilience authorities.
To fully leverage these methods and enhance Europe’s strategic foresight and crisis-response capabilities, a coordinated EU-wide approach is essential.
Speakers include:
- Georg Konetzky, Director General for National Market Strategies, Austrian Federal Ministry for Economy, Energy, and Tourism
- Stefan Thurner, President, Complexity Science Hub, President, Supply Chain Intelligence Institute Austria
- Peter Klimek, Managing Director, Supply Chain Intelligence Institute Austria ASCII
