So, What’s Next? Internal Trajectories of International Migrants in Austria
Municipalities serve as primary areas for integration, acting as the specific locations where migrants access labour markets, social infrastructure, and local communities. Consequently, internal trajectories (i.e., how migrants move from their initial point of entry to subsequent locations) reflect a critical dimension of the integration process and individual life-course transitions. However, these trajectories remain underexplored, as migrant mobility often follows a distinct logic compared to native populations, influenced by homophily and socio-economic opportunities. This research proposes a modelling framework to replicate the diverse pathways migrants navigate post-entry, specifically accounting for diaspora dispersion and life-stage at arrival. While this research is currently in the early stages of its own trajectory, these early findings represent a first step toward understanding the complex paths that lie ahead.
