In this talk, Ola Ali will present her PhD thesis on human mobility, a phenomenon that continuously reshapes human lives and societies globally. She develops computational models across two fundamental dimensions of migration: forecasting and integration.

Forecasting addresses how many migrants move and where they choose to settle. Networks shape the direction of human movement, modeled at the macro level through diaspora-based models and at the micro level through co-authorship networks and multinomial logit models of scholarly mobility.

Integration of migrants in host communities is operationalized across four measurable dimensions: legal stability, housing stability, labor market access, and healthcare utilization. Throughout, Ola Ali pays special attention to the lived experiences of refugees and displaced populations in Austria.

Together, these two dimensions treat migration as a complex adaptive system driven by feedback loops, where movement and settlement continuously shape one another.
