13 November 2026 Doomsday Conference – On the Sense and Nonsense of End-of-the-World Predictions

Friday, November 13, 2026 is the end of the world as predicted by Heinz von Foerster et al. in a scientific article published in Science in 1960. According to the article, on this day the world population will run into a singularity and end. Just before that happens, we discuss the value of attempts such as von Foerster’s and the nonsense in them. We confront von Foerster’s with the actual state of the world population and the demographics, and emerging problems arising from demographic changes. We discuss social, economic, and political consequences of the looming population peak and possible strategies for adaptation. We raise public awareness of the approaching population peak and the need for radical reassessment of the future of human civilization. The meeting will span a range from the mathematical understanding of singularities, improved predictions, the necessity of shifting the doomsday from time to time, to religion and popular culture of doomsdays.
