A Workshop on Elegant, Bizarre, and Funny Experimental Methods
How would you track sea turtles with pre-GPS, study embarrassment, and find out if time slows down when you’re scared? At first glance, many scientific hypotheses do not appear to be testable through experiments. Either the result cannot be measured, the variables cannot be isolated, or the procedure seems too cumbersome or dangerous. You will work in groups on simple but unusual research questions from the last 200 years and try to develop experimental designs. You will learn how researchers did it back then (maybe your solution is better). The idea is to encourage creativity and outside-the-box thinking. In any case, you’ll learn about some of the strangest and most ingenious approaches in the history of science to unlocking the world’s secrets. No prerequisites are required.
If you’re planning to join the workshop, please register in advance by writing an email to so we can prepare both the session and the pizza for lunch
