Elisabetta Salvai

Elisabetta Salvai is a PhD candidate in the Center for Social Data Science (SODAS) at the University of Copenhagen and the Pioneer Centre for Artificial Intelligence, supervised by Professor Roberta Sinatra. She is a guest researcher of the Network, Data and Society group (NERDS) at the IT University of Copenhagen. At the moment, she is a visiting researcher at TU Graz in the Computational Social Science and Network Inequality group led by Professor Fariba Karimi.

Her work is driven by a curiosity about how fairness—or the lack of it—shapes our professional and digital worlds. My research interests lie at the intersection of algorithmic fairness and the science of science.

With a background in Physics of Complex Systems, she focuses on quantifying and mitigating systemic biases within academic networks. Whether in the analysis of decades of conference diversity or de-biasing ranking algorithms, her goal is to ensure that visibility and opportunity in science are distributed equitably.
