Christian Obinger is Vicerector for Research and Innovation at the BOKU University since 2018 and Board Member of the Complexity Science Hub since November 2023. He has become Secretary of the CSH in May 2024.

Studies in chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Vienna. Doctoral thesis on respiratory electron chain in cyanobacteria at the Institute of Physical Chemistry at the University of Vienna. Postdoc Research fellow at the Brock University, Ontario, Canada. 1999 Habilitation in Biochemistry (Associate Professor) at BOKU, 2011 Full Professor in Protein Biochemistry. Research Focus on biochemistry of metalloproteins with focus on heme oxidoreductases, as well as protein engineering and design (>250 SCI publications). Head of the International FWF-funded PhD program BioToP – Biomolecular Technology of Proteins (2010-2018), head of the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Antibody engineering (2008-2016) and manager of 12 FWF stand-alone projects. Head of Institute of Biochemistry (2010-2018) at BOKU University.
