Bernadette Kamleitner is a Professor of Marketing and Consumer Research at WU Vienna University of Economics and Business, where she has headed the Institute for Marketing & Consumer Research from 2012 – 2023. In October 2023, she was appointed Vice-Rector for Research and Third Mission, taking on responsibility for fostering scientific and societal collaborations and for building structures that enable them.
She holds doctorates in Commercial Sciences from WU and in Psychology from the University of Vienna. Prior to joining WU, she taught and conducted research at Queen Mary University of London, where she also led the postgraduate marketing program. Her academic path has included research stays in Australia (QUT), the UK (Cass Business School), and the US (Virginia Tech and Yale).
Bernadette Kamleitner’s research explores various aspects of consumer behavior, with a particular focus on the psychological dimensions of technological change, psychological ownership, and the ethical boundaries of consumer sovereignty. The internationally-recognized scientist has collaborated with numerous companies and institutions, is a member of the Ethics Advisory Board of the Austrian Advertising Council, and has served, among other roles, as President of the transfer organization WWG Forum Marketing. Since 2025, she has been a member of the OSA Steering Board at the Austrian Universities Conference.
