Anxo Sánchez holds a PhD in Theoretical Physics from Universidad Complutense de Madrid (1991) and was a Fulbright postdoctoral fellow at Los Alamos National Laboratory (1993-1994). He is currently a full professor of Applied Mathematics at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, where he founded the GISC research group in 1996, and is also an associated researcher at the Institute for Biocomputation and Physics of Complex Systems at Universidad de Zaragoza.
His research primarily focuses on the application of complex systems physics to social and biological sciences. Notable contributions include breakthroughs in economics, condensed matter physics, ecology, and theoretical computer science, such as counterexamples to key theorems and the mathematical demonstration of social and primate relationship structures. He is committed to Open Science and Citizen Science, having led projects with over 2,000 participants and collaborated with various academic and institutional partners.
He has been principal investigator for 21 projects funded by major organizations, including the European Commission and NATO. He has worked with companies like Repsol and Siemens-Gamesa, co-founded the spin-off Kampal Data Solutions, and collaborates with Evidence-based Behavior on social interaction games. Additionally, he is in the executive committee of the Complex Systems Society and the Fundación COTEC expert network, where he also co-directs the Behavioral Economy Lab.
